Wrinkle-Smoothing Injectable Treatments
Neuromodulators are among the most commonly requested cosmetic injectable treatments for softening the appearance of fine lines and expression wrinkles. Over time, repeated facial movements such as frowning, smiling, squinting, and raising the eyebrows can cause lines to become more visible, even when the face is at rest.

What Are Neuromodulators?
Neuromodulators are injectable treatments used in medical aesthetics to temporarily relax specific facial muscles. By reducing repeated muscle contraction in targeted areas, neuromodulators may help soften the appearance of dynamic wrinkles and help prevent certain expression lines from becoming more noticeable over time.
Neuromodulator injections are commonly used for forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet around the eyes, bunny lines on the nose, chin dimpling, neck bands, downturned mouth corners, jawline tension, and facial slimming when appropriate.
Your provider will recommend a treatment plan based on your anatomy, facial movement, muscle strength, previous injectable history, and desired outcome.
What Are Dynamic Wrinkles?
Dynamic wrinkles are lines that appear or become more noticeable when the face moves. They are different from static wrinkles, which are visible even when the face is at rest.
For example, forehead lines may appear when you raise your eyebrows. Frown lines, sometimes called “11 lines,” may appear when you frown or concentrate. Crow’s feet often appear around the eyes when smiling or squinting.
Neuromodulator injections such as Botox ®, Nuceiva ®, and Dysport ® are commonly used to soften dynamic wrinkles by targeting the repeated muscle movement that contributes to these lines.
For clients with deeper static lines, skin laxity, or volume loss, your provider may recommend a combination approach that includes treatments such as dermal fillers, microneedling, RF skin tightening, HIFU skin tightening, or IPL photorejuvenation.

Avoid blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo, etc.) for 5–7 days prior, if approved by your physician.
Avoid alcohol for 24–48 hours before treatment.
Postpone if you’re unwell (cold, flu, infection, etc.).
Avoid facial treatments (facials, peels, microneedling, lasers) for 7 days before your appointment.
Inform your provider of any medical conditions, allergies, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Arrive with a clean, makeup-free face.
Schedule at least 2 weeks before major events to allow full results and potential bruising to resolve.

Stay upright for at least 4 hours after treatment.
Avoid touching, rubbing, or massaging the treated areas for 24 hours.
Do not apply makeup for at least 4–6 hours post-treatment.
Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating for 24 hours.
Skip facials, massages, or skin treatments (e.g., microneedling, lasers, peels) for 7 days.
Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications or supplements for 24 hours, if possible.
Use a gentle cleanser and resume your normal skincare routine the next day, avoiding exfoliants around the injection sites for 24–48 hours.
Results typically begin to appear in 3–5 days, with full results visible in 10–14 days.
Follow up with your provider in 2 weeks if touch-ups or assessment is needed.

She worked as a GP in London for several years prior to relocating to Halifax in 2019 with her husband and 2 young daughters.
