How Does HIFU Work?
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a non-invasive therapy that uses focused ultrasound waves to thermally ablate targeted tissue. This means tissue is precisely heated and destroyed to trigger regeneration. Micro-focused ultrasound energy is delivered into multiple skin depths without damaging the surface of the skin.
HIFU first targets the dermal layer, where collagen resides. By gently heating this layer, HIFU stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, helping to firm the skin, smooth fine lines, and improve texture over time.
Next, the energy reaches the SMAS (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) layer, a deeper tissue layer just above the muscle, which is the same one tightened during surgical facelifts. By reaching this depth non-surgically, HIFU creates a more defined, lifted, and youthful look naturally.

Avoid sun exposure and self-tanners.
Sun burned or tanned skin will not be treated.
3 days prior to treatment, do not use topicals containing Retin-A, glycolic, or salicylic acid, as this can irritate the skin.
If you have a history of cold sores/fever blisters, an antiviral medication must be taken prior to treatment.
Treatment cannot be preformed if you have an active cold sore or skin infection and will need to be rescheduled.
Please arrive makeup and moisturizer free.
Application of numbing cream may be applied, 15-20 minutes before treatment if you wish.

It is normal for the area to have edema and erythema (redness and swelling), the feeling of tenderness and/or numbness in the treated areas.
Tenderness and numbness along the jawline can last up to 1 week.
Apply gentle moisturizer and sunscreen.
Continue to apply sun protection daily to maximize your results and minimize irritation.
Avoid vigorous exercise, hot tubs, pools, sauna, and steam from 24-48 hours after treatment.
Mineral make-up can be applied immediately post treatment.
Avoid exfoliation, products with active ingredients for 1 week after treatment.
Neurotoxins and dermal filler injections can be resumed 1 week post treatment.

Have mechanical implants, dermal fillers, or implanted electrical devices
Have metal stents in the face or neck
Have keloid scars, open wounds, severe acne, or active skin conditions in the treatment area
Are taking blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Are under 18 years old
Have diabetes, epilepsy, Bell’s palsy, herpes simplex, or an autoimmune disease

How often can you have HIFU? When it comes to how often you’ll require a non-surgical facelift, it will very much depend on the individual. For your initial sessions it is generally recommended to undergo treatments every 8 weeks, you can then refresh within 6-18 months in order to achieve and maintain optimum results.

Prolift HIFU Treatments are typically well-tolerated with minimal discomfort and no downtime. Slight redness or swelling may occur but should subside quickly. A light tingling sensation of the treated area may persist for a few weeks. Multiple treatments may be needed for best results with full results typically visible 3 months after the last treatment.

While side effects are very uncommon, there is a small chance they could occur. These possible side effects are generally mild and temporary and can include a slight redness to the skin, which will decrease within 30 minutes.
Some people may experience slight tenderness or sensitivity following their Prolift HIFU treatment from a few days up to one or two weeks. This typically is a good sign that things are happening deep within the skin.

Do I need multiple treatments? The number of treatments depends on each individual's skin type and elasticity, the biological response to ultrasound energy and the individual’s collagen-building process. We would generally recommend 1-3 treatments depending on the area treated and the results strived for.

Results can be seen immediately with collagen production increasing in the 6-12 weeks post-treatment. Results will continue to improve over time, up to 3 months post-treatment.
